# Website Audit Tool — Privacy

## In short
Our website audit tool does not store your data. Scans run live and the results exist only while you are looking at them.
## What happens when you run a scan
When you enter a website address, our server requests that page and analyses its HTML and response headers. The results are calculated and sent straight back to your browser.
We do **not** store:
– the URLs you scan
– your scan results or scores
– any scan history
– any account, profile, or identifier for you
Nothing is written to a database. Once you refresh the page or navigate away, the results are gone. Running the same scan again produces fresh results from scratch.
## Abuse prevention
To stop the tool being overloaded by automated requests, we temporarily record how many scans have come from a given visitor.
To do this we store a **salted, one-way SHA-256 hash of your IP address** together with a counter. We do not store the IP address itself. The salt changes every day, which means the hashes cannot be linked from one day to the next and cannot be reversed to recover an IP address.
This record expires automatically after a few minutes. It is used only to enforce a scan limit. It is not used to identify you, is not combined with any other information, and is never shared or sold.
## Cookies and tracking
The audit tool sets no cookies, uses no analytics, contains no advertising, and does not track you across websites.
## Third parties
The audit tool makes no third-party requests. Fonts and styles are served from our own server, so no information about you is sent to any external provider by this tool.
When you scan a website, the request is made by **our server**, not your browser. The website being scanned therefore sees our server’s IP address, not yours.
For the robots.txt and sitemap checks, our server makes one additional request to the scanned website. Again, this comes from our server, not from you.
We do not sell, rent, share, or transfer any information about your use of this tool.
## Your rights
Because we do not store personal data from scans, there is generally nothing held about you to access, correct, or delete. If you have contacted us or submitted your email address, you may ask us to access, correct, or delete that information, or to object to its use.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
## Legal basis for processing (EU/UK visitors)
The limited processing described above (temporary, hashed rate-limiting data) is carried out on the basis of our **legitimate interest** in keeping the service available and protecting it from abuse. It is minimal, short-lived, and cannot be traced back to you.
## Changes to this notice
If we change how the audit tool handles data, we will update this page and the date shown above.
